Ear microsuctioning is a safe, gentle and dry technique to remove excess ear wax. Using a high-powered microscope to clearly see inside your ear canal, a trained doctor uses a tiny, low-pressure medical-grade vacuum to gently suction out the wax without using water.

No, the procedure is generally completely pain-free. Most patients only report a mild tickling or cooling sensation, along with the rushing sound of the vacuum. As your doctor has total visibility throughout the process, it is very precise and safe.

Yes, microsuction is widely considered much safer than traditional ear syringing (water irrigation). Traditional Syringing pumps water into the ear canal, trying to create a vortex to remove the wax under pressure without direct vision of the ear drum. Microsuciton is a dry technique (no water), keeping the ear completely dry and performed under direct vision. This means it can be safely performed on patients with narrow canals or previous ear surgeries.

No referral is required to book an Ear Wax Assessment and Removal at The EarClean Spot.
If further particular specialist input is required for management of your condition, this will be organised by your EarClean doctor.

While not always strictly mandatory, using “ear wax softening drops” or simple olive oil ear drops for 1 to 2 days before your visit can soften the wax. Softened wax can be easier to remove than hardened wax, however your doctor will be able to use the microsuction if you have, or have not used drops. If in doubt, do not use them.

A rushing vacuum sound may be heard by patients during the microsuction process. It can feel quite loud to some patients, and others will not notice it, however it is completely safe. If you have severe sound sensitivity or highly active tinnitus, please let your doctor know beforehand.

Yes. If the child is able to sit/ lie still on the treatment bed your doctor will be able to perform microsuctioning. There is no distinct age limit but generally children above 4 -5 years old are able to tolerate the procedure.

The Gap Fee is the “out of pocket” cost to the patient, excluding their Medicare Rebate. If the patient does not have an eligible Medicare Card then the full fee is payable (reception can advise).
